What Color Goes With Zebra Stripes?

Zebra stripes add a dramatic touch to the decor of any room in the house. Using black and white creates a modern look. Without a touch of color, however, you might find it too boring for your taste. When you look for hues to complement your zebra motif, it's easy to choose colors that add interest and depth to this timeless theme.
  1. Neutral

    • Neutral colors blend well with black and white decor without stealing its thunder. Paint your walls gray or use gray rugs or carpeting to implement this color that blend the black and white of zebra stripes. Choose tan, cream, brown or sand colors to add some warmth to your stripes while maintaining a neutral motif. Choose throw pillows in a variety of these shades to place on a zebra-stripe couch, or paint one wall in the room in an adobe color and cover it with nature scenes that include zebras and other wildlife.

    Warm

    • Warm shades work well to bring a sense of heat and coziness to the stark aura of zebra stripes. Red with orange undertones contrasts with black and white for a dramatic pop. Red tablecloths, curtains, wallpaper and decorative items create an eye-catching accent for your two-tone decor. Orange is an option that creates a cheery look. Pair hand-knitted throws, knickknacks, fresh-cut poppies or a wooden bowl filled with fresh oranges to spice up your zebra look.

    Cool

    • When you prefer a stark, contemporary look, choose cool shades like midnight blue, silver, purple with blue undertones or mauve to combine with your zebra decor. Hang abstract paintings that implement these colors or cover your walls with textured wallpaper in the same hues. Hang several of your own photographs that contain these shades and choose matching frames to carry through the theme or choose a pair of sleek chairs with fabric in cool colors.

    Fluorescent

    • While glow-in-the-dark colors may not be for everyone, the younger set might enjoy pairing them with zebra stripes for a psychedelic look. Teen girls especially gravitate toward hot pink combined with a zebra pattern. Choose a funky, fuzzy lampshade, a silky bedspread or several cushy throw rugs to add a feminine touch. Neon green or glowing yellow are other possibilities. Locate and hang curtains that duplicate these colors in a plain shade or as part of a trendy design.
