How to Make a Bird Hanging From the Ceiling

  Form the shape of a bird from air-dry modeling clay. Start with the body of the bird, then create the wings separately. Attach one wing shape onto either side, pressing and molding the clay with your fingers so it forms a seamless connection.

  Form the beak of the bird with a different color of modeling clay so it stands out and attach to the head. Create the eyes and any additional features you wish to add and attach in the appropriate spots.

  Stick a small eyehook into the center of the bird's back before the clay begins to dry.

  Allow at least one week for the clay to air dry.

  Add any decorative embellishments such as painted details or glued feathers to the bird or leave it plain.

  Install an eyehook into the ceiling. Use a small drill bit to create a starter hole if necessary and screw the eyehook into place.

  Attach a thin piece of wire to the eyehook that extends downward to the height you want your bird to hang.

  Attach the other end to the eyehook that's in the finished bird's back so it hangs from the ceiling.

  Trace the shape of a bird's body onto a piece of colored construction paper.

  Decorate the bird's body with any appropriate craft supplies such as paint, feathers or markers. Make sure to cover both sides of the body.

  Cut a square of tissue paper and fold it back and forth in an accordion style to create the wings.

  Cut a small slit in the center of the bird's body and slide the tissue paper through.

  Punch a hole in the top of the bird's back and tie a piece of yarn into place. Tape the other end of yarn to the ceiling so the bird looks like it's flying.
