Primitive Country Colors

Reds

• The reds of primitive country decor are dark and muted. Typically, these reds have hints of blue or black rather than hints of yellow or white. The darkest country red is a wine-color while the lightest country red is a dull red. Other popular country reds include burgundy, black cherry and cinberry. Country reds often resemble the red of a faded barn or a glass of wine. These reds typically add a rustic feeling to your decor.

Browns

• Most rooms that follow a primitive county style are heavy on browns and beiges. These browns often resemble the colors found on tree trunks and branches. Often, the darkest brown is a dark chocolate character while the lightest brown in a cinnamon or nutmeg character. Country decor includes cool and warm browns. However, most browns tend more towards a neutral hue.

Beiges

• The beiges of primitive country decor are often light brown or sand-colored. These colors include tan, mustard, peach, sand and cream. Beiges tend towards warm colors and often have hints of yellow or orange. Since beige is a neutral color, it often takes up large expanses of the home such as walls, curtain and carpeting. Very light beiges may reach off-white or ivory. Since white colors are considered neutral, they can be added to a color scheme without creating a tacky look.

Greens

• Country greens match the colors of trees in full bloom. These greens tend away from brightness. Rarely neutral, country greens are typically either warm or cool in tone. Cool greens include hunter green, olive and grass. Warm greens include avocado and yellow-green. A symbol of nature, green creates feelings of life and vitality. Cool greens tend to calm people while warm greens provide a mild source of energy.

Blues

• When blue is included in a primitive country decor, it adds a feeling of calm and relaxation. Typically, primitive country blues are deep blue, light blue or Cape Cod blue. Lighter blues remind of the sky while darker blues remind of deep bodies of water such as lakes and oceans.
