How to Decorate a Burgundy & Gold Room

Cover the room's ceiling, doorway and window trim with painter's tape. Roll light gold paint onto the walls with a paint roller. Remove the painter's tape when the walls are dry. Tape around the trim, and carefully paint all of the room's trim white with a paint brush.

Lay down a fringed, burgundy oriental rug with gold, green and brown accents over an oak finish hardwood floor or burgundy carpet. The oriental rug can be a traditional long rectangle, which makes the room feel longer. The rug can also be round or octagonal to accent the center of the room.

Hang a crystal and gold chandelier from the white ceiling to give the room central lighting and keep the decor from feeling too heavy. Place burnished gold-toned floor lamps in areas that are in shadow. Top the lamps with burgundy beaded shades.

Place a burgundy leather couch and chair set with gold stud accents on the sides in a comfortable seating arrangement around the room. Add burgundy leather ottomans in front of the chairs for relaxation purposes. Set a dark wood coffee table in front of the couch.

Hang dark wood or gold wall sconces and mirrors on the walls. Frame the windows in light gold paisley drapes. Set green plants on the window sills and coffee table to highlight the green in the oriental rug.
