Decor Ideas for a Deep Dark Purple Bedroom

The color purple has long been associated with royalty, and today the color comes in a variety of shades and tones, including deep dark purple. Choosing this color for your bedroom allows you to tap into the rich history of the color purple as well as the color's decorative potential.
  1. Gothic

    • Gothic decorating styles have recently become favorites because of the shapes of the interior architecture, decorative accents and deep colors. Although you may associate Gothic color with black, in actuality dark reds and purple are also included in this palette. The advantage that deep dark purples bring to this decorating style is that the purple can be used to replace black in some cases. For example, if you're reluctant to paint the walls black, purple offers you a substitute that's almost as dark but not quite as harsh. Additionally, the color goes nicely with the red and black accents and provides a dramatic backdrop to some of the accessories that are common in Gothic decorating, like pewter dragons and Medieval swords.

    Accents

    • The accents you choose can play up the drama of the purple walls of your bedroom. Deep dark purple walls look even more so when you select accents like a white bedspread with purple patterns on it. Abstract art on the wall that features different shades of purple will stand out on a purple wall if it's framed in a yellow or white frame. Any accent that has a bit of your chosen color of purple will reinforce the purple theme without being as overpowering as all purple accents.

    Contrasting Colors

    • The deliberate choice of contrasting colors will help you bring out different elements of your purple room, depending upon which contrasting colors you choose. A deep, dark purple room with yellow accents will feel different than one with light mint green or pink accents. When choosing accent colors to go with your purple room, go to the paint or home improvement store and look at paint chips or fabric swatches that feature each of the colors you're considering for your purple bedroom.

    Patterns

    • When you highlight a color like deep purple in your bedroom, it opens up the possibility to introduce some interesting pattern combinations. A common color will act as a visual binder between the various patterns you select for your bedroom. For example, select items such as your bedspread, pillows and rugs with patterns like paisley, stripes and fleur-di-lis. Ensure these items feature the same tone of purple; they will look like they belong because of the purple.
