King Tut Decoration Ideas

King Tutankhamen is the most well known of all the Ancient Egyptian pharaohs, largely because his tomb is one of the most intact tombs ever discovered in the Valley of the Kings. His burial chamber had remained mostly untouched for more than 3,000 years when Howard Carter found it in 1922. Inside were roughly 3,500 priceless artifacts made of eye-catching materials, such as gold, lapis lazuli and alabaster. The beauty of these objects provides inspiration for decorations.
  1. Outdoor Parties

    • The dominant colors of King Tutankhamen's tomb and famous funerary mask are Egyptian blue and gold. For an outdoor party, decorate the party area with blue and gold streamers. Twist the two colors together before hanging the streamers so they will contrast each other the way they do on Tut's mask. Make outdoor tablecloths with the same striping by spray painting them with nontoxic fabric paint spray in gold. Once the gold dries, apply painter's tape in stripes along the entire cloth. Spray over the cloth in blue, allow it to dry and then remove the tape.

The inside of Tut's tomb also contained several chests and boxes. Paint polystyrene coolers gold, fill them with drinks and scatter them throughout the party area to mimic these chests.

    Indoor Parties

    • For an indoor King Tutankhamen--themed party, accent the room with gold or blue painted vases, small chests and small wooden or metal boxes. Search for items you can paint for the party at yard and rummage sales instead of buying expensive items you will only use once.

Tut's tomb contained large golden objects, and the walls featured tall painted figures in ancient Egyptian garb. Instead of painting the walls for a party, buy large rolls of paper and cover the walls with it using double-sided tape. First paint them gold, or paint hieroglyphs and similar figures to those found in Tut's tomb.

    Home Decor

    • To add a King Tut theme to everyday home decor, buy small replicas of items found in King Tut's tomb at museum stores or online. Put these items on tables throughout the room. Decorate chairs and couches with blue-and-gold chair cushions and throw pillows. Instead of a coffee table, find a large wooden chest with a flat top. Some of the chests in King Tut's tomb were made of wood rather than gilded or made of expensive material, although they had elaborate designs on the outside. Use an etcher to add Egyptian-themed designs to the outside of the wooden chest coffee table.

    Office Decor

    • King Tut--themed colors and objects may not be subdued enough for the office if you install them all over the room. Instead, give the room a subtle King Tut theme with small artifact replicas for knickknacks. Hang a replica of King Tut's crook and flail in an X shape on the wall. Framed pictures of Tut's tomb or the artifacts found within provide another tasteful way to bring Tutankhamen into office decor.
