How to Blend in a Semigloss Paint

A blended paint look can instantly improve the look of almost any room's décor. When you create this look, you can add a little extra style by using semi-gloss paint in combination with a faux glaze. The technique used for the blending finish is simple once you get the hang of it, but you might want to practice a little on a piece of scrap wood before you start applying the paint directly to your wall.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a semi-gloss paint color. The color you choose will be applied to the wall to create the blending finish.

    • 2

Add one part semi-gloss paint and four parts faux glaze to a bucket. If you want a richer color for your blend, use more semi-gloss paint and less faux glaze. Mix with a paint stir.

    • 3

Paint your base wall. For a blended finish, the base wall is typically white or another light, neutral color. Wait for it to dry.

    • 4

Dip a polyester brush into the semi-gloss and faux glaze mixture. Use this to apply the mixture to a painting sponge.

    • 5

Tap the painted wall with the sponge to transfer the mixture. The result will be a unique blend pattern with the semi-gloss paint color coming through.

    • 6

Run a pad applicator over the wall in random circles while the semi-gloss and faux glaze mixture is wet. This softens and blends the pattern.
