How to Make a Kitchen Dishcloth

A kitchen dishcloth, sometimes known as a dish towel, is an often-overlooked item in your kitchen. To some it is merely a plain, functional cloth to dry dishes with, but you can make a nice dishcloth that's an eye-catching accessory to your kitchen decor. You can crochet, sew, or use pieces of fabric to make a dishcloth.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut out a 10-by-10-inch square of the waffle weave muslin.

    • 2

Cut out a 2 1/2-inch-by-42-inch long piece of the patterned cotton fabric you plan to use.

    • 3

Fold this piece of cotton fabric in half width-wise, going down the whole length and iron it while still folded. You will use this to bind the edges of the waffle-weave muslin we cut earlier so it doesn't fray.

    • 4

Attach a walking foot to your sewing machine, then attach the folded piece of cotton so that the muslin goes all the way to the fold between the two sides. Sew all this together at the edges. When you get to the end of each side, fold the fabric over and continue on to the next side. Do this for all four sides. Doing this will bind the edges securely.

Hand-stitch the binding in the front to the back. Now you have your new dishcloth.
