Paint Colors for Country Bathrooms

If you want to give your home a warm, cozy look, a country decorating theme is an ideal option. It is a particularly effective choice in a utilitarian space such as the bathroom, which can easily begin to feel cold and sterile. Choosing the paint colors for a country bathroom can be a difficult decision, though, because there are a variety of options to consider. Once you settle on the type of country look that you want for your bathroom, you may have an easier time finding a paint color that works for the space.
  1. Flag-Inspired

    • You can't go wrong with a country decorating scheme that celebrates classic Americana, so the colors of the flag are ideal paint colors for a country bathroom. For a simple look, paint the walls a bright white shade and use blue or red for the trim and molding. Use the remaining color as an accent shade with towels, carpeting and curtains. If you have a large bathroom and prefer a bolder look, go with blue or red walls and paint the trim white. If your country bathroom has beadboard paneling, you can also paint the top portion of the wall white and the beadboard red or blue to anchor the space.

    Pastels

    • If you prefer a French or English country style for your bathroom, pastel paint shades are an option. A soft lilac or lavender shade is an ideal backdrop for a cottage-inspired bathroom. Mint green, sky blue and butter yellow are other attractive color options for a French or English country bathroom. Combine any of these pastel shades with crisp white trim and molding for a soft look that works in even a very small bathroom.

    Worn and Muted

    • Country décor often makes use of warm, muted paint colors with a distressed finish. If your bathroom walls have beadboard or other paneling, try painting it a subdued shade of sage green, rust or golden yellow. Use sandpaper to distress the paneling in random spots and apply a brown glaze to the beadboard with a rag. When the glaze is wiped off, the beadboard has an aged look, so your bathroom walls will resemble those from a vintage country farmhouse. You can paint the top portion of the walls white or beige or choose a color that is a shade or two lighter than the beadboard paneling for a monochromatic look.

    Neutrals

    • If you a more subtle look for your country bathroom, neutral paint colors are the way to go. A soft cream or beige adds warmth to the walls while providing a blank canvas for the room. You can take an Americana approach and add red and blue accent pieces. Use mint, lilac or light blue accessories to create a French country cottage look for the bathroom. You can paint your wooden bathroom vanity a muted sage or rust color and give it a distressed finish as well. Because neutral wall colors work with a variety of country looks, you can even change your mind about your bathroom's theme without having to repaint the walls.
