How to Match Tile Around the Tub to the Baseboard Trim

While most people spend the most time planning, painting and decorating their living rooms, it's equally important to properly design your bathroom. A bathroom is one of the most frequently used rooms in any household, and the right shade of paint can drastically improve even the shabbiest of rooms. When you design your bathroom, take time to match the tile around your bathtub to the paint on your baseboards. This can not only make your bathroom look classier, but will also demonstrate impeccable interior design taste.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit your local tile supply store to select the right tile for your bathroom. Decide if you want to re-tile the entire tub or just the tiles close to the baseboard. If you opt to only replace the tiles close to the baseboard, realize that tiles are simple to replace and you can always retile the rest of your bathroom at a later date when finances and time permit.

Bring a paint sample with you to compare to different tiles. If possible, bring a dried sample of the exact paint used on your baseboards. If you no longer have the paint you used on your baseboards, browse color palettes to find the closest color match you can. You can pick up paint color palettes anywhere interior paint is sold.

Hold the paint sample next to several designs of tiles to find the best matches. Choose several tiles that you like and ask to bring a set of sample tiles home with you. Bring the selected tiles to your house and place them in your bathroom so you can examine the tiles next to your baseboard. Sometimes, looking at tile in a showroom is very different from seeing it in your own home, and this can impact your decision.

Paint the tiles to match the color of your baseboard if you cannot find a pre-painted tile that matches your bathroom needs. Use latex paint on your tile for the best results.
