How to Decorate a Small Bedroom Alcove

Paint the back wall of the alcove in a contrasting color to the rest of the walls to make the area stand out even more. Use a color tone that matches items in the bedroom, such as the bedspread or accent pillows. Dark colors make the alcove visually pop against the rest of the wall, while lighter colors provide a more gentle contrast. Paint the shelves in a neutral color like white, if your alcove has them.

Cover the back alcove wall with a decorative piece of fabric or wallpaper to add a small area of pattern to your bedroom that's not visually overwhelming, like covering a large wall area can be.

Select one decorative accessory to place in your bedroom alcove for a minimalist effect that won't clutter the small space. Choose an object that extends to a point several inches below the ceiling and is narrow enough to leave at least 2 inches of space on either side for a framed effect. A tall vase, sculpture or ceramic vessel provide options.
