Color Ideas to Match Purple Walls for a Teen's Bedroom Furniture

If your teen loves her purple walls, choose furniture that plays off the color. Purple can be incorporated in many themes, such as butterflies, flowers or a Moroccan style. The furniture should complement the shade of purple on the walls and the rest of the decor in the room. Versatile pieces are best in case she tires of the purple walls at some point.
  1. Black

    • Place a black bed, nightstand, dresser and shelf in the room against light purple walls. Black furniture could include an intricate wrought-iron headboard, shiny black lacquered furniture or painted wood pieces. Add purple knobs on a dresser. Avoid black furniture if the walls are dark purple, as that could have a dark, depressing effect. Dark wood pieces, such as walnut or mahogany, are an option if you don't want a solid black look.

    White

    • White furniture will contrast with walls in any shade of purple. Light purple walls and white furniture will create a soft, feminine look, while the contrast of darker purple walls and white furniture works for a modern style. A large white headboard and a wall of white shelves will break up dark purple walls to prevent the room from feeling too dark or heavy. White furniture is incredibly versatile and can work with numerous other colors if your teen wants to repaint the walls at a later date. Lighter wood tones, such as birch, could be used instead of painted white furniture.

    Metals

    • Furniture with a chrome or brass base, or a metallic headboard, can work with the purple walls in modern or classic decorating styles. For example, place a chrome bed with purple and silver bedding against medium to dark purple walls for a modern and minimalist room. Use a metallic headboard and a canopy of gauzy fabric with bedding in rich jewel tones for a Moroccan-themed bedroom. Other furniture could include wood pieces with a brushed metallic finish or that include inset mirror pieces. Tie the look together by using metallic hardware on the dresser and nightstand.

    Bright Colors

    • Brighten up the bedroom with colorful furniture pieces that complement the color scheme. Upholster a headboard with fuchsia velvet for a pink and purple room. Paint a dresser with lime green accents and add purple knobs for a pop of color. A chair with turquoise upholstery will complement a Moroccan-style room.
