Ideas for a Gold Bedroom

Gold is a color often associated with wealth and success. If you want to give your bedroom a touch of glamor, incorporating gold into the room's decor is one way to achieve this effect. Gold comes in many subtle shades and finishes for use as a wall color or as a shade for bed linens and accessories or in accents for furniture or light fixtures. To keep the room from looking garish, choose a few areas in which to feature the color. Use gold sparingly for the most impact.
  1. Paint and Wallpaper

    • Paint and wallpaper are bold ways to incorporate the color gold into your design scheme. If you do choose to paint your walls a gold color, avoid metallic shades. Instead, choose a flat shade of light gold and use a high-gloss base to give the illusion of subtle shine. If you're looking for a sparkling gold effect, consider it for an accent wall. Use wallpaper with touches of gold or mount gold fabric on the wall. This can make a statement without being overwhelming. If you use gold for the walls, all you need to do is pick up a few accents of gold in accessories throughout the room.

    Furniture

    • Paint gold trim on the furniture or use gold drawer pulls and hardware. Or use upholstered furniture to incorporate gold into the room design. For example, cover a piece of plywood with foam, cotton batting and a fabric featuring gold embroidery for a custom-made upholstered headboard. Or look for upholstered chairs, ottomans and benches with metallic piping or cording or that have fabric that features a pattern that includes gold.

    Bedding

    • The bed is the primary focal point in a bedroom, so consider using the bedding to bring the color gold into the space. Whether you choose a gold-colored duvet cover, pillow shams or even just a decorative dust ruffle, gold will add a touch of glamor to an ordinary bed. In lieu of choosing solid-color gold linens, look for bedding that has gold thread embroidered into the design so that the gold is only evident when light hits the material.

    Accessories

    • Add accessories that have a touch of gold into the mix. For example, install gold tiebacks for curtains. Or use a lamp with a gold-colored metallic base or trim a lampshade in gold cording. Other lighting fixtures could feature dark metallic gold or choose decorative candle holders in shades of gold. For wall art, choose gold-painted frames. Small area rugs with gold trim can bring a touch of metallic glamor to the flooring. Be judicious as to how you incorporate gold accessories in the room; edit carefully so that the effect is one of golden highlights, rather than masses of gold color.
