The House Colors to Go With a Brown Deck & Redwood Door

Many decks are brown because that is the natural color of the wood. Redwood, meanwhile, is exactly what it sounds like -- wood that's made from a redwood tree, and its color is a rich golden-red color. Matching the color of your home to two competing browns (the brown of the deck and the brown of the redwood door) can be a challenge; you'll need to find a color that either matches both browns or a color that can stand apart from the browns to contrast with them.
  1. Earthy Brown

    • Earthy brown is possibly the most obvious color choice to match a redwood door and a brown wood deck. The actual shade of brown used can vary, but avoid choosing a brown color that is too close to the color of the deck or the door. If the colors are very similar but not quite the same, your house will look as if you were trying to unsuccessfully make all the colors the same. Select a brown that is distinctive from the deck and the door. Choosing a brown color for your home is especially appropriate if your home is in a wooded setting with a lot of natural browns in the environment around your home.

    Gray Blue

    • Gray-blue will stand out well against your deck to provide a pleasant contrast against your redwood door. This color is a delicate, almost feminine color that works best with a deck that is a natural blond or golden wood. If you choose a gray-blue color, select a white or cream-colored trim to keep your color scheme light and airy.

    Green

    • Sage green and gray green will effectively contrast with a redwood door. Green is most pleasing with a medium or dark shade of brown deck. To match with a green home, the trim should be white or cream or, in some cases, light brown or dark green, which is also a good combination to use in a wooded area. Avoid electric greens or bright greens; instead look for muted natural greens.

    Selecting the Right Color

    • If you're painting your house, understand that the paint swatches at the store will not always look the same as the paint that gets painted on your house. Since you're trying to match the color of the house to the color of a door and a deck, hold paint swatch cards next to the door and next to the deck so that you'll get a good sense of what they'll look like when the entire house has been painted this color.
