There are number of ways to brighten a dark hallway. However, since the passage is generally narrow, you will need to rely on the use of color to do most of the work. Consider light and bright colors when approaching this project and you can’t go wrong.

  Paint your hallway with a color that pops. Go with bright or light colors, such as turquoise, lemon yellow or off-white. Paint the ceiling white for added brightness.

  Apply bright wallpaper. An alternative to painting, wallpaper gives you a variety of colors that will add cheerfulness to your hallway. Look for wallpaper that reflects light for the best effect. Patterns with white, yellow, pale blue and green backgrounds open the space. Another option is vertical stripes.

  Consider adding colorful molding and trim or light-colored wainscoting.
