Boho Room Colors

Bold and Bright

• What makes boho decorating fun is that you can play with a wide range of colors, so it is an ideal decorating style for incorporating bold, bright colors like primary shades of red, yellow and blue. Royal purple, Kelly green, magenta and orange fit the bill as well. In most cases, these shades are too much for the walls, but you can add accessories in your favorite bright shades to liven up the room. Consider adding a bold blue vase and filling it with red silk flowers, or transforming a neutral sofa with patterned pillows in shades of yellow, orange and purple.

Rich Jewel Tones

• If you like rich color but prefer it more muted, jewel tones are attractive option for a boho-style room. They may even make attractive wall colors if your room is large enough. Consider shades like ruby, sapphire, emerald, turquoise and amethyst to give your boho room an eye-catching look. If your room is too small for such a dark wall color, paint a single wall in one of the shades to create an accent wall. Load up on jewel-toned accessories. Beaded lampshades, pillows and curtains in ruby, emerald and sapphire shades are attractive touches that can add texture to the room as well as color.

Warm Earth Tones

• Boho décor often includes warm earth tones to add dimension and richness to a space. You may be more comfortable using one of these shades for your walls, so consider a soft brown, gold or terracotta color for your walls. Use upholstered furniture in earth tone colors for a boho-style living room or family room to create a warm, inviting feel. Patterns that mix earth tones and bright shades are an ideal addition to your room.

Grounding Neutrals

• As with most styles of décor, you can’t go wrong with neutral colors in a boho-inspired room. In fact, given the eclectic nature of the décor, it often helps to have a neutral backdrop to ground the room. Consider painting your walls a cream, ivory or tan color to provide a blank canvas for mixed prints in bright, rich shades. You may also add some black elements to balance out the bolder colors. Try furniture with a black finish for maximum impact or black picture frames, mirrors and other accessories for a more subtle look.
