The color gray is considered a neutral shade since it's a mixture of white and black. Selecting a gray shade that is the same value as the pink carpet is an effective way to neutralize the color. For example, if the pink carpet is a light color, pick a light gray color for the walls. If you select a dark value of gray, it will highlight and emphasis the light pink carpet. The same holds true for a darker pink carpet with light gray walls.
On the color wheel, green is complementary to red, which is a component of pink. Using green shades on the walls with a pink colored carpet will complement and neutralize the carpet color, making it appear less intense. Alternatively, neutralize pink shades that have a hint of blue with yellow-green paint for the walls. Orange-pink carpets will benefit from greens with a blue tint.
Shades of brown, from light tan to deeper milk chocolate, will tone down any pink color by visually giving the carpet a brown tint. When room walls are colored in a brown shade, the pink carpet will take on, or reflect, the brown from the walls. Multiple brown shades in wallpaper or painted in wide stripes on the walls will have a similar effect.
Yellow is a component of green and brown and will have a similar impact on a pink carpet, depending on the shade and intensity of the yellow. Lighter, creamier yellow shades for walls will soften a brighter pink carpet. Deeper yellow shades with a hint of brown or tan can subdue a light pink carpet. Avoid combining bright, red-yellow walls with your pink carpet because the stronger the red is in the yellow shade, the more vibrant the pink will appear.
