How to Make a Wall Stencil Out of Contact Paper

You can use painted-over wall stencils to create unique designs that add glamour to a room's decor. This is a particularly good alternative to using wallpaper when designing children's rooms and allows you to customize the design. You can make your own stencil for painting using contact paper. You will need to reproduce the design on the paper before cutting it out to create the stencil.

Instructions

    • 1

Print out a copy of the image that you want to use for the stencil. Tape the image to the contact paper using masking tape. Or, draw your image directly onto the contact paper with a pencil.

    • 2

Place the contact paper on a cutting board. Cut the shapes of the stencil out using a craft knife. Make sure that you cut out the sections that you want painted, and that you leave in any necessary bridges to hold shapes in place.

    • 3

Remove the original design section if you attached it with masking tape.

    • 4

Peel the protective backing from the contact paper and attach it to the wall in the position where you would like to apply the stencil.
