How to Create a Blue and Brown Bedroom

Paint your bedroom walls a pale blue or a soft brown. If you choose blue, use a shade that does not have gray undertones. White trim will give a crisp contrast and add visual interest to the room.

Look for a rug that combines blue and brown in a simple pattern. A braided wool rug is a good choice or an abstract or nature print that is not too bold. If you prefer carpet, use a medium-tone blue or brown.

Top your bed with a quilt or bedspread that has various shades of blue, tan, brown and white. Choose sheets in solid white, blue or brown or a muted pattern including those colors.

Create a reading nook in a corner of the bedroom with a blue or brown upholstered or wicker chair, a floor lamp and a tiny bistro table.

Store extra linens or winter clothes in a wooden trunk at the foot of your bed.

Frame artwork with natural wood frames and hang them to create a grouping of themed pictures. Seascapes, landscapes, flower prints or old maps would all work well with this style.

Hang a white or wood ceiling fan with a light fixture to brighten your room and add interest. Lamps next to the bed look good in white, brown or blue materials.

Set out a few well-chosen collectibles that reflect your interests and tastes. Keep collectibles and ornaments to a minimum to maintain the relaxing, peaceful feel of your room. Clutter will detract from the serene look.
