Ideas for a Khaki Bed

Choosing a comfortable, cozy look for your bedroom helps ensure a good night's sleep. While it may seem like a challenge to find the right decor, starting with your favorite color and using it to decorate your bed is usually a recipe for success. A color like khaki may seem unusual for a bedroom, but you can use it to enhance your bed in as subtle or dramatic a way as you'd like. However, if you plan to use khaki for your bed, try a light color like cream or ivory on the walls to keep your bedroom bright and airy.
  1. Bedding

    • The easiest way to incorporate khaki in your bed is through the sheets and comforter. You can find a variety of bedding khaki sets, including solids and patterns that heavily feature the color, such as camouflage. If you are concerned that khaki bedding may give your bed a drab look, don’t use a cotton comforter. Instead, opt for a bedspread made from fabric with a more decorative finish such as a sateen or woven dot texture. A khaki bedspread that features a delicate embroidered pattern can also give your bedroom a softer look. When it comes to khaki sheets, choose satin or silk for a more luxurious appearance.

    Bed Frame

    • If your bed has a wooden or metal frame, you can paint it in a khaki shade for a unique look. For a traditional look, paint the frame with a solid khaki color. For added texture and dimension, opt for a faux finish. Even a technique as simple as sponging or ragging khaki paint on your bed frame can increase its visual interest. A faux finish is an ideal option if for an old bed frame that’s beginning to show signs of wear and tear. If you want to give your bed frame an antique look, try a crackle finish with two shades of khaki paint. When you apply a special crackle glaze over the paint, the top coat "cracks," so the darker khaki color below shows through and gives the frame a worn appearance.

    Upholstered Headboard

    • An upholstered headboard is an ideal way to add a pop of khaki to your bed. It is also a versatile way to decorate your bedroom because you can create a variety of looks depending on the type of fabric that you choose. Opt for a satin or velvet khaki fabric and create a quilted headboard for an elegant look in your bedroom. If you prefer a casual style, a simple cotton or linen khaki fabric is an ideal option. You can even use a canvas material to create a rustic headboard for a khaki-colored bedroom.

    Curtain Enclosure

    • Curtains are often hung around beds to give them a romantic, feminine look. Flowing, white fabric is often used for the effect, so it has a soft, delicate look. If you like the idea of a curtain-enclosed bed but prefer a less frilly look, use khaki-colored curtain panels instead of white. Once you install curtain rods on the ceiling above your bed, surround the bed with fabric to give it an intimate feel. Sheer khaki curtains are the best option because light and air will still pass through them, but voile and mesh fabric are semi-transparent, so they work as well.
