Glass Tile Countertop Design Ideas

Monochromatic

• A monochromatic design is usually the easiest look to lay out for a glass tile countertop. Choose a single shade of glass tile and cover the entire countertop surface. For added dimension, you can use several different shades of tile from the same color family and place them in a random order across the surface. The difference in color between the tiles will draw the eye to the countertop, but the effect is subtle, so it won’t overwhelm your kitchen or bathroom.

Contrasting

• For a bolder look, create a contrasting design for your glass tile countertop. Start with tile in two different colors that contrast with one another sharply. Black and white is a classic combination, but you can opt for any combination that you like. Try red and white or blue and yellow for a bright, colorful look. Alternate the two colors across the surface until the entire countertop is covered. The effect is similar to a checkerboard and can add a funky, modern look to your kitchen or bathroom.

Patchwork

• If you prefer to use multiple colors for your glass tile countertop, a patchwork design may be an ideal option. You can use as many different colors of tile as you like, but a smaller countertop usually looks best when you use no more than four shades. The colors can all be similar in tone, such as beige, tan, rust and other earth tones for a warm look, or turquoise, cobalt, mint and moss green for a Mediterranean look. It is an easy pattern to lay out because you only have to choose whether you want your stripes to run horizontally or vertically and alternate each color row by row. You can dimension to your countertop by varying the thickness of the stripes. For example, if you plan to create blue and white stripes, you can use two rows of white glass tiles for each row of blue tile so the counter has added texture. You can also lay your stripes in a diagonal direction for a more interesting look.
