  1. Surprising color combinations with pink

Go sophisticated -- combine pink with dark colors.

Take the curse off a too-bright pink by using dark, sophisticated colors in the rest of the bathroom. Pink and black are a snazzy, art deco combination; pink and gray are subtle; pink and brown are warm and rich and newly popular. Any of these combinations will calm down pink tile and make it glow.

Paint all the nontiled walls in the dark color of your choice, and add towels, throw rugs and other accessories in the same shade. By enveloping the rest of the room in the dark color, you will notice it first; the will be seen only as an accent.

Go snappy! Combine pink with red.

This happy color combo is suitable for any decor, from country to modern. Red gives backbone to pink and makes it more adult. Red towels and rugs, a white wallpaper with red and pink accents, and red trim at the windows will march pink tile into the 21st century.

Go Marie Antoinette! Combine pink with lilac or chartreuse.

Adding lilac walls, towels and accents will make the pink part of a continuum of pastel colors, sophisticated and lovely. Adding chartreuse will create a rocked-out vibe -- electrifying, not sweet. Using either lilac or chartreuse will turn pink inside out, making it read as the exact opposite of babyish.
