Gray, White & Turquoise Bedroom Ideas

When you have a terrific color scheme, you have a near foolproof guide to a beautiful room. Just stick with your colors, and you can't go wrong. Gray, white and turquoise is a versatile combination that can lead you to a calm room or a spritely one, depending on which color you make most prominent.
  1. Gray Walls

    • Gray has recently taken over from beige and taupe as the most popular neutral color, and no wonder -- it's a beautiful, calm color. Gray walls are soothing, appropriate for a private retreat for relaxing and sleeping. This color is particularly refreshing in a south-facing room that gets too much sunlight and needs to be cooled down. Gray with white trim is a classic combination, so add white woodwork, white blinds and white bedsheets to your room. The floor covering might be a gray rug. Curtains could be white or turquoise or a print mixing the two. Finally, a turquoise bedspread or duvet cover and one or two small turquoise accents -- pillows, a chair cushion or a ceramic vase on your bookcase -- will deepen this calm, classic color scheme.

    White Walls

    • White walls give a bedroom a clean, upbeat feel, whether the style is country or modern, and maximize the light. White makes the brightest room of these three colors. But white is such a common wall color that you'll have to use turquoise and gray extensively in the rest of the room to assert the color scheme. Floor and bed coverings should be either turquoise or gray, as these are the next largest areas in the room, and smaller objects like lampshades or pillows or a chair could be in the third color. Consider white walls, gray carpet, turquoise curtains or blinds, turquoise bed coverings and smaller turquoise accents.

    Turquoise Walls

    • Don't be afraid to swathe your bedroom in a saturated color like turquoise.

Brave souls need not shrink from painting their bedroom walls turquoise. It's such a lively color that even though it's darker than gray or white, it's still upbeat. The room will become a glowing jewel. White on both the floor (carpeting, a rug or paint) and ceiling will keep the room from going too dark. Woodwork could be white or turquoise. Add a white bed cover for contrast, or swathe the bed in turquoise also and save the gray for the smallest accents, like pillows.

How to Choose Your Wall Color

    • Color emphasizes what you want people to notice first. Consider your furnishings. Do you have a gorgeous glass vase or beautiful painting in your chosen colors? Then emphasize the "foreground" of your room -- your stuff. Color the background -- the walls and floor -- in the lightest color, and use lots of accents in your brightest color, turquoise.
But if your belongings are nothing special, you might choose to emphasize the "background" of your room -- the walls and floor. Put your brightest color, turquoise, there, and the lighter colors on the smaller objects in your room.
