What Looks Good With a Black Refrigerator?

Decorating with black appliances is an ideal way to create a modern look in a kitchen, but it is a style option that must be done with the right accents and lighting. When not decorated correctly, the space might lose the warm, inviting feeling a kitchen should have and might instead feel harsh or cold. Black appliances must be balanced with lighter tones throughout the space and accented with bright colors and a good amount of natural light.
  1. Paint

    • When accents within a room are black, selecting a dark paint color has a tendency to feel overwhelming, particularly in a small kitchen or one without much natural light. Multiple dark tones are possible but should be reserved for larger spaces. In most kitchens, a black fridge will do best when mixed with lighter cabinets, flooring and countertops. A more visually appealing option, and one that will increase the texture within the kitchen, is to select a paint that is light or neutral in color. Shades of white, cream, beige and taupe are ideal for modern styles while mossy greens and watery blues are more soothing in the kitchen.

    Cabinets

    • Kitchen cabinets are an essential aesthetic and functional part of the room, and, as such, their design is key to pulling off the desired look. Several color options are available to choose from when selecting cabinets. Most natural light and medium wood colors will accent or contrast black very well; even a darker shade with a rich red undertone will work in most spaces. Some design styles call for a more inventive use of color in cabinets, including shades of green, blue, yellow, white and red, all of which will work with black refrigerators.

    Flooring

    • The color of the floors will most likely be influenced more by the wall color and overall design than by the appliances, but there are some colors, textures and styles that will work better than others with dark appliances. Ceramic or stone tiles are ideal for creating a modern style kitchen, and each comes in a wide selection of colors and textures to add visual interest. Engineered wood floors in light or medium tones will bring a warm feeling to the space and are more suitable for use in the kitchen than their natural counterparts. Concrete flooring is an option that has grown in popularity in recent years due to its durability and style flexibility.

    Accessories

    • In keeping with the modern feel of black appliances, keep accents simple and the space uncluttered. Window coverings are best in a light neutral or wood tone. Add drapes in a solid color, preferably one that is bright or rich in tone to add a bit of contrast and depth to the design. Accenting black with chrome handles and knobs is a modern alternative to solid black and offers a nice contrast to black.
