Decorated Black Bedroom Ideas

The color black adds visual drama to a space in a way that few other hues can. Although many people often associate the color with darker decorating styles such as Gothic, black has great potential to bring an air of sophistication and even whimsy to a space. It all depends on the way you use black in your bedroom.
  1. Patterns

    • A variety of patterns brings contrast to a bedroom, which makes the decor of the room more visually interesting to look at. The trick to making a multitude of patterns look good together in the same room is to choose a common color that all the decorative elements will share — in this case, black. To add patterns such as stripes, paisley or harlequin diamonds to your bedroom, look for items such as the curtains, decorative pillows and rugs with patterns like these on them. Balance them out by buying larger items such as the comforter in only one color, black.

    Modern

    • Although shades of black are a common feature in traditional decorating styles such as Tuscan or French country, the hue also fits in a more modern bedroom. When using black to create your modern room, follow the same decorating rules that you would follow if you were decorating with all white, the traditional color used in modern decorating styles. Avoid clutter and keep the furniture and decorative accessories to a minimum. Choose one or two interesting items to display and keep the rest tucked away out of sight. Finally, use some white accents such as a collection of modern sculpture to decorate the top of a black entertainment center or bookshelf.

    Black Focal Wall

    • Create a focal wall by decorating one in your bedroom to make it stand out from the other walls around it. You can accomplish this task by the decorative elements that you choose as well as by painting that wall a different color than you paint the other walls in your bedroom. Black is a viable option for this task. To make a black focal wall in your bedroom, paint one of the walls of your room black. The wall you intend to lean your bed's headboard against is the best choice, but you can choose any wall. Paint the other walls in the room white for the highest visual contrast. Decorate the focal wall with mirrors, sconces as well as paintings.

    Photo Galleries

    • Photos capture single moments in time, and black and white photos give these memories a feeling of nostalgia. These photos can be intimate and beautiful and make a powerful visual statement on the walls of your bedroom. Create groupings of photos of the same event such as your wedding or of a family trip to the beach. Choose a series of photos or have one special photo blown up to a size like 18 inches by 24 inches and hang it on a wall that you paint a deep red or cobalt blue.
