Choose one color for your walls or both walls and floor. Any of these three colors will work. Even black, which might seem the most outlandish choice, has become a popular wall color for a room that gets sufficient natural light. Your room might have black walls; a white ceiling, floors, woodwork and furniture; and one or two small objects in tan or honey-colored wood. A room with this color scheme can be stunning and elegant.
Choose a second color for the floor and the largest pieces of furniture. For example, if you take the classic route and put white on the walls, you might choose tan for the flooring or rug; tan-colored wood or upholstery for a dresser and chairs; and a tan-and-white print bedspread. With black walls, you might make the floor and most of the furniture white. With tan walls, you might want the furniture to be white.
Use the third color for smaller accents in the room: lamps, pillows, or small pieces of furniture. If you made the walls tan, for example, you might make the furniture white and the accessories black, or the reverse. Or you might choose a black-and-white toile or other print for the bed and curtains. If you made the walls white, you could use wicker furniture in a natural tan color and black accessories or use black furniture and tan accessories.
