Dora and Diego Decorating Ideas

Dora and Deigo can be used together or individually to decorate a toddler's room or any room in your home in a "Dora the Explorer" motif. If you have twins or plan on passing the room from a child of one gender to another, then combining the two characters in your decor will provide you with a more neutral design scheme. You can also choose to feature just one of the characters, and use the other for accents. Dora and Diego make an ideal theme for playrooms and preschool classrooms as well. Thanks to the overwhelming popularity of these characters, there are plenty of officially licensed decorating items from which to choose.
  1. Walls

    • If you are artistic, consider painting the main characters from Dora the Explorer and Diego directly on your walls. Even if you are not an artist, you may be able to create a mural by projecting an image from a book onto the wall, then tracing and coloring. If you don't want to add the actual characters, you can use authentic Dora paint colors and add vinyl wall clings or a decorative border featuring the characters.

    Furniture

    • Choose regular sized furniture that matches the color scheme worn by Dora or Diego. Dora features plenty of vivid pink and purple, while Diego is surrounded by greens and orange. You can also purchase furniture specifically designed for preschoolers that features Dora or Deigo. Look for toddler beds, tables, storage bins and more that come complete with character scenes and motifs and will fit perfectly into any room.

    Bedding

    • Licensed bedding, including sheets, comforters and pillows, is available through many different retailers. Official licensed merchandise will come pre-printed with Dora, Diego or both, allowing you to quickly pull together a room. Crafty decorators can use the bedding for more than just accenting a bed; you can make curtains, storage items and more using Dora or Diego sheets as the fabric. Choose solid colored blankets, pillows and other accessories to accent the licensed linens if you are on a budget.

    Accessories

    • You can purchase pre-decorated Dora items, or buy plain items and decorate them yourself. A trip to the kid's section of the bookstore will yield plenty of Dora or Diego related books that can be cut apart and used for decoupage. The scrapbook aisle of the craft store is also packed with Dora-themed items. Simply adding a sticker or a rub-on to a plain plastic piece can transform it and make it into an ideal accent for your Diego-themed room.
