Blue & Black Bedroom Themes

Ocean Theme

• Many children are interested in nature, and blue and black work well in the design of an ocean-themed bedroom for adolescents. Paint the walls in a blue theme similar to the ocean and hang posters featuring ocean creatures, such as jet black killer whales. Select black carpeting to tie in with the killer whale posters and pick blue curtains to match the walls. Black furniture -- such as a bed, desk and dresser -- will accentuate the blue and black theme.

Modern Theme

• Certain shades of black and blue are often associated with a modern decor style. As such, both colors work well when creating a cool, modern-looking bedroom. Select light shades of blue -- including those mixed with gray -- for the room's walls, curtains and bedding. Paint one wall a shade of black to serve as a contrast-setting accent wall. Include black or charcoal furniture in the room and hang art containing black and blue that features a subject matter of interest to the room's occupant.

Sports Theme

• Because blue and black are prevalent in many professional sports teams, you can match these colors to a specific team's logo. If the person who sleeps in the bedroom is a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, Chelsea F.C. or the Dallas Mavericks, for example, he might already have posters of these teams hanging on his walls. Match the colors in the team's logo or uniforms to the paint and, as closely are you can, to the room's bedding and curtains.

Space Theme

• For a child interested in outer space, you can use blue and black to accent a space-themed room. Paint the room's ceiling in a shade of black or dark blue, then affix planet stickers to the ceiling in the shape of the solar system. Select light blue curtains to avoid the room having too dark an appearance, and have an Earth blue carpet installed.
