Centerpieces Using a Hurricane Candle Holder

The perfect centerpiece can turn a table from dreary into elegant and inviting. While hurricane candle holders were designed to hold candles, their tall and sleek design allows them to hold multiple items, which can create a table centerpiece to remember. Items, such as candles, flowers or candy, can make the perfect addition to the holder.
  1. Candles

    • Holders are tall and wide, which protects the flame from breezes. This is why the holder was named "hurricane." Several tall and skinny hurricane holders make a lovely addition to your table centerpiece, but one larger holder also provides ambiance. Avoid using scented candles when serving meals because they can interfere with the food's aroma.

    Flowers

    • Because the holders are tall, they make a perfect vase. When creating centerpieces, taller is better. However, if you are decorating at a table where many people are seated, avoid spreading the flowers out, as this interferes with the guests' vision. Place multicolored pebbles in the holder and add a few long flowers. You can put in colored water instead, to give the table a pleasing glow.

    Candy

    • Not all hurricane candle holders are sturdy, so only place candy inside if you are sure the holder won't break when someone grabs a treat. Use a holder wide enough as to be practical to hold candy. A candy centerpiece is only appropriate on special occasions, such as Easter or at a child's birthday. Baby and bridal showers are also an ideal time to indulge in some sweet sugary treats. You can load the holder with jellybeans, chocolate or whatever other candy you prefer.

    Material

    • When choosing to use a hurricane candle holder as a centerpiece, use glass, unless you are putting dark materials in the holder. For example, branches are dark and they are common for tables during winter. A glass holder reveals what is inside the holder and shows off your creativity. While glass is the most common material, brass and other metals are also available. Metal material is more appropriate when placing items that aren't as attractive at their base.
