Use the colors of the bed as a basis for the rest of the room. Adding bright, colorful linens to the bed gives the room a punch of color. Draw those colors throughout the rest of room, using them as accents on pillows, curtains, chairs and other decor.

Paint a little girl's canopy bed a smooth, creamy white to provide a neutral base. Utilize pale-colored linens, such as white, pale yellow, peach, sky blue or sage green. Add layers of chiffon or tulle at the top corners of the canopy to give the room a dreamy feeling.

Choose a wall decal that matches the girl's personality and existing bedroom decor. Remove the headboard from the bed, leaving the wall open. Place the wall decal over the bed to act as a headboard. Use linens that correspond and complement the colors of the wall decal and the rest of the decor. Add several pillows at the head of the bed to make the space seem fuller.

Refurbish an existing headboard with chalkboard paint. Lightly sand the headboard and add two layers of chalkboard paint, allowing each to dry before touching it. Add a thin border around the headboard to give it definition. Keep a box of chalk near by on the night stand for spur of the moment messages and doodles.

Create an oasis with an abundance of pillows on the bed. Although this idea is suitable for older girls, young ones may enjoy relaxing in the softness of many pillows. Choose plush, comfortable pillows in soft fabrics for the best results. Remember that extra pillows must be removed from the bed when sleeping for safety reasons.
