Ideas for a Mechanic-Themed Room

Some little boys like the idea of being a mechanic. Maybe they got the idea from a movie they saw, they just like cars or their dad is a mechanic. Whatever way your little boy grew to like mechanics, you can make his room a mechanic's paradise. Use mechanic-themed decorations to fix up his bedroom.
  1. Bed Covering

    • The bed covering is often the biggest part of the room. Make the bed the focal point of the room by creating a blanket that is ideal for your little mechanic. Purchase a child's size mechanic's suit and two flat sheets that will fit his bed. Sew the mechanics suit to one of the sheets. Layer this top sheet with the bottom sheet using some quilt batting in between. Use sheets that are blue, black or gray so they will fit in with the rest of the mechanic-themed bedroom.

    Curtains

    • Sew some one-of-a-kind curtains for your little mechanic's room. Fabric comes in all types of novelty prints, including prints that involve cars or fixing cars. If you cannot find any suitable fabric at your local fabric store, look online. Many online sites have specialty fabrics. Make tab curtains (curtains that use tabs to hang on the curtain rod), and sew little car buttons or other novelty items at the base of each tab.

    Decals

    • Purchase mechanics' decals from your local department or interior decorating store. These decals come in all shapes and sizes. You can decoupage them to wooden furniture in the room or attach them to the wall. Some decals are formed to fit over doorways or for use as a border around the wall. Find decals that are murals that you can use to cover an entire wall. Decals that are clings can easily be removed when your child changes his mind about bedroom decorations.

    Furniture

    • Buy furniture that also fits in with the mechanic theme. Child size beds are sold that look like cars. Redo a dresser to look like a mechanic's toolbox, or find a mechanic's toolbox at a yard sale or flea market; clean it up, repaint it and use it for storage in the bedroom. Use fake tires to attach to the walls to hold things such as books or toys. Attach the fake tires to the ends of a bed frame to make it look like a car.
