How to Decorate With Graffiti

Graffiti art, whether created by your own spray can or captured in photographs or books, will add a colorful element in home decor. When used in a restrained way, brightly colored images can add a creative feel to any room. Use a mix of homemade graffiti and more "artsy" framed photographs to define spaces in a home without making it look too "themed." Coordinate spaces by pulling dominant colors from the artwork and reflecting them in textiles and accessories in the rooms.

Instructions

    • 1

Hang a large canvas covered with graffiti images or handmade graffiti over a sofa in the living room to determine the color palette for the rest of the room. Use the dominant colors in the canvas to coordinate pillows and throws.

    • 2

Place a collection of graffiti art books on the coffee table. Select from titles such as "Graffiti World: Street Art from Five Continents" and "Graffiti Women: Street Art from Five Continents," both by Nicholas Ganz.

    • 3

Frame a series of photographs of graffiti found around your city or online. Look for images or graffiti on buildings, railroad cars and signs. Hang the series on the wall in a kitchen nook or eat-in space.

    • 4

Paint a chest of drawers black and allow the graffiti artist in your house to decorate it with neon spray paint graffiti images. Place in a teen's bedroom.

    • 5

Take a clear plastic shower curtain and spray with graffiti imagery then hang it in a bathroom. Coordinate the rest of the bath with the dominant colors in the shower curtain.

    • 6

Go to a crafts store and buy plain heavy-duty cardboard boxes in various sizes and shapes. Decorate with graffiti spray art or use a decoupage technique to apply graffiti images to the boxes. Pile up in a corner or distribute through the home to add a splash of color.
