Things for Girls' College Dorms

A college dorm becomes your home for the next several months. It's a space you want to create that reflects your style and personality. While the college will supply the standard bed and desk, you are able to decorate the room in any fashion. With many different patterns for bedding with matching rugs, garbage pails and other accessories, you are sure to have a space that suits you.
  1. Cute Dorm Bedding

    • Dorm rooms are relatively small, bland spaces and your bed will take up a good portion of that space. Bedding with a cute print is a fun way to liven up the room. There are many types of prints available such floral, animal print, and stripes, that will brighten up your dorm. The best time to shop for your bedding is during the summer before you leave for college. Many stores have specials on bedding and you can also get a "bed-in-a-bag" which contains a comforter, pillow case and sheets. Just be sure to check with your college residence office to see if you will need extra long bedding.

    Pictures and Posters

    • Adding pictures to your dorm room gives it a touch of home. Many colleges do not allow you to nail things to the wall so pictures should be in frames and put on your dresser or desk. Putting posters on the walls is a great way to cover the blandness of the room.

    Accessories

    • Adding little touches of accessories to your dorm room will help spruce it up. Purchase a lamp and rug that match your bedding. Buy bed risers, which will make room for storage containers. And no girl's dorm room should go without a full length mirror. If your dorm room has enough floor space, consider purchasing a small chair or bean bag chair. You will have people visit and want a place for them to be able to sit.

    Storage

    • Dorm rooms are known for their lack of storage space. You typically have a small closet and a dresser. Since this room is your home you will also need those two items to store things like food and your bathroom accessories. If you attend college several hours from home you also need space for seasonal clothing. There are many types of plastic storage that will fit under your bed. Also invest in a shoe rack to hang on the back of your door. It will give you more floor space in your closet. Make sure your storage containers are lightweight. You don't need heavy items especially when you will be moving again.
