How to Build Your Den Into a Man Cave

Write down design ideas for your man cave based on your desires. Determine if you want a home theater in the room, a bar, pool table, poker table or pinball machine. Walk around your den and decide where you want to place each item.

Measure the dimensions of the den. Section off each area, such as where you want to place the bar or a flat-screen, and determine if you have enough space for all the items you want. You may have to choose some items over others to fit everything into the room comfortably.

Choose a color scheme. A theater room may require a darker shading for the walls and floor, while a game room may need additional lighting.

Look at furniture stores to select types of seating. A bar area requires bar stools, while the home theater needs comfortable seating, such as recliners or a sectional sofa. Large dens can accommodate small seating areas with two chairs and a lamp or end table.

Visit floor stores if you want to change out the flooring inside the den. Hardwood floors provide a rich covering, and rugs scattered throughout release a splash of color. Carpets, such as Berbers, add comfort underfoot coupled with strong fibers to withstand substantial foot traffic.
