Ideas for Basketball, Football, and Baseball Sets for a Kid's Room

A child's imagination is perhaps his greatest gift, allowing him to turn his bedroom into a wonderland of excitement and adventure. If your child is a basketball, baseball or football fan, decorate his room to fuel this passion. Adding posters, throw rugs, accessories and a new paint job can turn your child's boring bedroom into a dedicated sports shrine while allowing him to act out his wildest sporting dreams.
  1. The Bedding

    • Sports bedding can be specific to one sport -- such as baseball -- or be a mix and match of numerous. For example, your child can have football sheets, a baseball blanket and basketball pillow cases. Or another variation of such. You can also buy three sets of bedding -- one for each sport -- allowing your child to alternate depending on the current season. Once football season ends, he can switch his bedding to baseball and so on.

    The Paint Job

    • Your kids bedroom walls can act as a canvas for their sporting interests. Walls can be painted in simple ways or more complex ways. For example, if your child is a football fan, try painting numerous footballs on her wall. Or, paint her entire wall to look like a football field. If she's a basketball fan, paint her walls to look like a basketball court, or paint her floor to look like a basketball court and her walls like a crowd, cheering her on. You can also paint the walls to match her favorite team colors.

    Furniture and Accessories

    • Your child will need furniture and accessories to complete his sports themed bedroom. You can purchase bean bag chairs shaped like basketballs, baseballs or footballs online or at retail shops. A throw rug designed to look like a baseball diamond, basketball court or football field can be tossed in the center of the room. Or perhaps a toy chest, decorated with one or all three sporting events for him to keep his prized positions in. Line his shelves with sporting action figures or bobble-heads. If he has recently gone to a sporting event, frame the ticket and place it on the shelf as well.

    The Walls

    • The walls -- either painted or not -- can be used to further exhibit your kids interest in all things sports. Try placing a peel and stick wall mural of a baseball, football or basketball scoreboard behind her bed. Hang hats representing her favorite teams around the room. A clock with a specific team logo can be hung across from her bed. You can place stick and peel wall borders around her entire room featuring one or all three sporting events. Posters of her favorite teams or players will complete the look, allowing her to gaze upon her heroes as she wakes up in the morning, and falls asleep at night.
