Bedroom Design Ideas With Polka Dots and Stripes

Polka dots and stripes have long been desirable motifs to use when a person is decorating a bedroom. Rather than choosing one of the two for your bedroom, consider mixing them up and incorporating both polka dots and stripes in your decor. You could use this decorating option for children, teenagers or adults. Use bright colors for a whimsical room and more muted colors if you prefer a mature look.
  1. Walls

    • Begin your polka dot and stripe theme with your walls. Choose the main color that you desire for your walls and paint a base color onto your walls. Then, choose an accent color or two and add polka dots and stripes to the walls. For example, add polka dots to two walls of the bedroom that are parallel to each other. Add stripes to the other two walls. Use a stencil to make the polka dots and painter's tape to create the stripes. Be sure to use a level and a ruler when you make your stripes to make sure they are even.

    Linens

    • Incorporate your polka dot and stripe theme with your bedroom linens as well. For example, choose a set of sheets that is decorated with polka dots and a comforter that features stripes. Choose pillow shams that are polka dotted. Make sure that the polka dots and stripes are the same color or coordinate well together so that the linens do not look mismatched. If your bedroom window is located on a wall you painted with polka dots, choose striped curtains in a coordinating color.

    Furniture

    • Another idea is to add furniture to the room that features either stripes or polka dots. For example, create a headboard for your bed using a piece of wood and covering it with cotton batting and fabric. If you will be hanging the headboard on a striped wall, choose a polka dot fabric. You could also paint either stripes or polka dots on your bedside tables, dresser and desk. If you would prefer to leave the furniture simple, paint it in a color that coordinates with the rest of your decor.

    Accessories

    • Don't forget to include accessories in your room that feature your polka dot and stripe theme. For example, choose a lamp that has a base painted with polka dots and place a striped lamp shade on top of it. A rug featuring one of the two designs also would work. Another idea is to paint a framed canvas with polka dots or stripes and hanging it on a contrasting wall.
