How to Decorate With Honeybees

Although nurseries often feature honeybees as a decorating theme, with the right accessories this decorating motif can become quite grown up. It's a matter of working with the right color scheme and accessories so that you evoke the honeybee; with these elements in place, you'll enhance the decorative potential of any accessories featuring honeybees that you place in the room. You'll also bring warmth, along with a touch of whimsy, to the space.

Instructions

    • 1

Paint an accent wall honeybee yellow. An accent wall is one wall in your home that you paint a different color than the other walls in the room. Write quotes about honeybees on the wall using black paint. Use stencils for the lettering if you don't want to write freehand.

    • 2

Hang up art prints featuring honeybees on your accent wall. Frame these in black frames. Consider featuring black and white prints that are colorized with touches of yellow.

    • 3

Put up yellow and black striped wallpaper on the walls surrounding the accent wall. These evoke the honeybee's tail.

    • 4

Adorn your wallpapered walls with ceramic honeybees and sconces with honeybees or honeybee colors. Hang up a mirror with silver, black and yellow stripes on the frame.

    • 5

Put down a yellow and black throw rug in the middle of the room. This helps center the furniture and visually grounds the decorative elements.

    • 6

Flank the area rug with a black couch as well as black and yellow striped chairs.

    • 7

Add throw pillows that feature honeybees to the couch and chairs. Alternate some of the honeybee patterned pillows with plain black and yellow pillows.

    • 8

Hand paint honeybee stencils on a black painted coffee table and place the table in the center of the furniture.

Collect accessories like ceramic jars shaped like honey jars, antique honeybee stuffed animals and bee's wax candles. Place these on shelves, tables and on the fireplace mantel. Cluster these items according a visual theme. For example, if you find several ceramic honey jars, place these at the ends of the fireplace mantel. Decorate the middle of the mantel with yellow and black candles. Add a candle display to the fireplace opening as well if it's during the summer months. Include a few plain bee's wax candles in these displays. Look for candelabras with honeybee themes. Make an antique stuffed animal corner on your shelf, featuring stuffed and wooden bees.
