How to Decorate a Nursery for a Little Girl in Purple

Purple can be an excellent choice for a little girl's nursery. Soft shades, such as lavender and lilac, are commonly used in nursery designs because of their soothing effect. They are also easy to match with other pastel colors, such as light yellow or pink. With just a few design touches and materials, you can transform a plain room into a lovely purple nursery for a little girl.

Instructions

    • 1

Paint the walls. Tape off any baseboards or crown molding and the ceiling and apply the purple paint color of your choice to the walls. If the walls were painted any other color than white, use a primer first to ensure that you get a true color application.

    • 2

Paint the woodwork. Painted wood baseboards can soften the room and add more visual interest. For example, if you chose lavender for the walls, paint the crown molding and baseboards an ivory color. Choose white for the woodwork to contrast with deeper purple walls.

Install a wallpaper border around the room. Place the border at mid level or at the top of the walls to add more visual interest to the room. Choose a design that is appropriate for a little girl, such as delicate flowers or fanciful designs, in a color that coordinates with the walls.

Add purple accents to the room. Place a purple rug under the crib or in the center of the room. Install a purple lamp on a side table near a chair for more light in the room. Add a purple mobile above the crib.

Hang coordinating draperies in the room. Choose a color that coordinates with the room. For example, for lavender walls, you could choose ivory or even a darker purple shade for the curtains.
