Hockey Bedroom Ideas

When decorating a bedroom for a child, drawing inspiration from his interests and hobbies is an effective way to create a space that he enjoys. If your son or daughter is an avid hockey fan, a hockey-themed bedroom is sure to be a hit. It can also be an enjoyable project because there are a variety of ways to incorporate the hockey theme into the decor, so you can be creative and personalize the look to create a space that your child will love.
  1. Team Colors and Logo

    • For a hockey-themed bedroom, draw inspiration from your favorite team's colors and logo. You can use one of the team colors as the paint shade for the wall, or create a two-toned effect by painting the top portion of the wall one color and the bottom portion another, with a white chair rail serving as the transition between the two. If your team's colors are too bold to cover the entire walls, go with white paint and add pin stripes of the team colors for added visual interest. You can also paint a wall mural of your team's logo for a fun touch. When choosing bedding, you can find comforter and sheet sets for all of the National Hockey League (NHL) teams that feature team logos. However, if you prefer a subtle look, opt for solid-colored bedding in one or two of your team's colors.

    Hockey Goal Headboard

    • For an unusual conversation piece, use a hockey goal as a headboard. A regulation goal is wide enough to accommodate a twin or full size bed and doesn't require any additional work to serve as a headboard. Set it against the wall with the open side facing out, and place your bed inside so it is enclosed by the net. Along the top of the net, you can add a couple of helmets to give it an even more authentic look.

    Hockey Stick Wall Art

    • Hockey sticks make ideal wall decorations for a theme bedroom. You can crisscross two sticks, and mount them to the wall to create a simple wall hanging. For a more elaborate look, gather several vintage hockey sticks and cut off the blades. Screw them together one on top of another so the manufacturer's logos are visible and mount the entire piece on the wall for a cool, unusual piece of artwork.

    Memorabilia

    • No hockey bedroom would be complete without memorabilia to decorate the space. Hang framed photos of your favorite players on the wall, and mount autographed sticks for display. You can frame game-worn or autographed jerseys as well. Display signed pucks on shelves along with bobble-head dolls of your favorite players. Team yearbooks also make attractive decorations if you set them out on a bookshelf or coffee table. You can even purchase old yearbooks from online auction sites or memorabilia shops, and frame the covers to hang on the wall.
