How to Decorate in Spanish Revival

Capture the romantic ambiance of Spain by giving your home some Spanish Revival style. Spanish Revival decor relies on elements common in Spain and throughout the Mediterranean, such as European plaster walls, warm colors and other details. With a few changes, it's you can transform an ordinary room into a majestic, Spanish-inspired space.

Instructions

    • 1

Switch out rectangular doors and windows for ones that feature a curved, graceful edge. Arched doorways and windows are common in Spanish Revival style.

    • 2

Paint or finish the walls. Use a stucco style faux plaster finish to give walls the appearance of the earthy texture found on old European buildings. Whitewashing the walls also gives the space an old-world look. For a quick transformation, paint the walls in warm neutral colors, such as cream, or rustic reds and browns.

    • 3

Add beams to the ceiling. Thick wooden beams give the room an old-world Spanish feel while making the space more cozy.

    • 4

Incorporate pieces of wrought iron into the design. Wrought iron chandeliers, candelabras or banisters have a rustic look that will make visitors feel as though they are in Spain.

    • 5

Pull up any carpet and cover the floor in earth-toned tiles or thick wooden planks. A luscious throw rug in a deep red or rich chocolate color promises your feet won't get too cold.

    • 6

Add Spanish-style details. Hand-painted tiles can be used to line a fireplace, in a bathroom or as a kitchen back splash.

    • 7

Fill the space with dark, commanding furniture that complements the Spanish Revival theme, such as heavy wooden tables and chairs and large leather sofas.

    • 8

Hang up artwork. Large mirrors with intricate golden frames, warm-toned oil paintings or antique portraits and photographs complement the Spanish Revival look.

    • 9

Accessorize. Top chests or end tables with cream colored candles, rustic lamps and potted plants. Add pops of Mediterranean colors and patterns by using decorative pillows, blankets and other accents.
