Paint the room you are decorating in colors of nature that can inspire feelings of the Old West. This can include cactus greens, sunset oranges and earthy browns. The color you choose will provide the background for all your Western decorations. If your budget allows, you could also choose to install wooden paneling on the walls such as knotty pine which can give the room a rustic appearance.
Use Native American inspiration throughout all your decor. This can include Navajo blankets thrown over couches or chairs, rugs with Native American designs, Navajo pottery placed on end tables or coffee tables, Hopi baskets hung from the ceiling and plants such as cactus placed in pots with Native American designs. If your budget allows, you can also purchase some unfinished wooden furniture for a rustic appearance, such as end tables or rocking chairs.
Use natural objects when decorating the room such as petrified wood, large rocks, animal antlers, animal bone or old recycled objects such as wagon wheels which can be strategically placed to lean against the wall.
Hang pictures on the wall that depict Old West scenes such as cattle roundups, wagon trains or Native American life. You can also hang old West artifacts on the walls or replicas of artifacts such as reprints of old wanted posters, replicas of sheriff badges or replicas of old six-shooter guns or bows and arrows.
