What Is Texturing Spray?

Texturing spray is a product used in interior design to create effects for wall painting, such as an orange peel or dappled paint appearance. The texture is usually applied onto a dry wall and is removed with a trowel, or preserved with an extra coat of primer or paint.
  1. How It Works

    • Texturing spray is simply a dry-wall texture substance that is passed through a certain type of nozzle in order to create a textured effect. This technique is used in both small and large scale applications on walls, ceilings and other home design surfaces and provides added dimension to home design. The dry wall compound is available in liquid form for larger applicators, or you can mix it by hand from a pre-made powder mix.

    Can Sprays

    • For small-scale texture, aerosol can texturing sprays are available at your local hardware store in a variety of effects. These cans are meant for repairs of worn-down texture or for small-scale application, and usually have a smaller spray radius than larger applicators. These products may save you the cost and mess of a larger rented or store-bought sprayer.

    Large-Scale Texture Sprayers

    • For larger projects, such as whole walls or ceilings, texture spraying machines are bought for anywhere between $30 to $350 or rented for $45 a day, as of 2011. The machines are similar to air compressors, and force pressured air to mix with the texturing compound and escape through the nozzle at a uniform speed and thickness. These larger sprayers are ideal for applying texture evenly over larger surfaces.

    If All Else Fails...

    • If you have trouble applying texturing spray evenly, or you find that your texturing job is beginning to seem overwhelming, seek the help of certified professionals. Finding a local drywall contractor may save you time, stress and money, as they will also bring their own equipment, with which they have most likely already become familiar. Professional-grade texturing will also guarantee an even coating and polished appearance to your home interior.
