5 Different Types of Table Linens

Disposable

• Disposable table linens are popular for camping trips, barbecues and children's birthday parties. A disposable table linen is made from vinyl, plastic or paper. Some vinyl varieties are reusable and simply require a wipe down with a clean rag before rolling up for storage. Disposable table linens come in a variety of solid colors and patterns, and you can find them at many local party supply or general stores.

Linen and Fabrics

• Linen and fabric table linens cost more than disposable varieties but are machine-washable or dry-clean safe, which means they are reusable. Most linen tablecloths are made from cotton, polyester, silk or damask. A linen tablecloth is also versatile when it comes to patterns, colors and styles. High-end or specialty linens are crocheted, embroidered or made from lace. When using high-end table linens, machine washing is usually not an option; therefore, they must be dry-cleaned.

Round

• Round table linens are available in disposable and fabric varieties. A round table linen ranges from 40 inches to 180 inches in diameter and covers small tables, such as cake tables, or large 8-seat banquet tables.

Square

• Square table linens can cover serving and sitting tables or even accent large buffet tables. Most square linens are measured in inches. Therefore, measure a table for width and height. This will determine how long the table linen needs to be to touch the floor and hide the table's legs.

Banquet or Rectangular

• Banquet or rectangular linens cover 6- and 8-foot buffet tables for weddings, birthday parties or display tables. A banquet linen can fold up to cover a square table as well, especially when there is a shortage of square linens in a particular color or pattern.
