How to Decorate a Bedroom Cheaply With a Victorian Theme

Victorian decorating is known for its luxurious, ultra feminine style, but don't think luxury has to be expensive. In fact, you can decorate an elegant bedroom with Victorian style without breaking your budget. The best strategy for decorating a Victorian themed bedroom cheaply is using and recycling everything you can, looking for castaway items and garage sale finds, and thinking outside the box when it comes to how you use some items.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a color scheme from items you will be using in your bedroom. Victorian decor colors tend to be dark and bold. Rich red, green and gold work with Victorian decorating. Lighter alternatives include dusty rose, pale blue and creamy white. Pull two or three colors from a painting or a bedspread you'll be using in your room. Make one color primary and have at least two accent colors.

Paint your walls with a color that coordinates with your chosen colors. You don't have to go with dark colors on the walls; in fact, if you intend on using bold colors in your room, a lighter color on the walls is ideal. Consider the amount of time you spend in your bedroom and pick a soothing color.

Look for bedspreads with lace or ruffles instead of investing in expensive fabrics to dress your bed. Look for a bedspread with a floral pattern and layer a comforter and pillows on top to add interest to your room.

    • 4

Craft window treatments from reusable items. One of the best ways to make inexpensive curtains is to hang sheets with lace trim from curtain rods. Slide the rod through the hem and your window dressing is complete. Use enough panels for a full, ample window treatment. Use ribbons for simple but elegant tiebacks.

Lean a mirror on the top of a small folding table or tray for an inexpensive vanity table. Place a reproduction lamp on or above the table for added charm.

Accessorize the Victorian style cheaply with wicker. Wicker is inexpensive and it enhances the Victorian look. Bed stands, tables, chairs and baskets allow you to embellish for less money.
