Color Scheme

• The color scheme will set the tone for the overall design of the space. Choose a muted neutral palette in hues such as beige, taupe, mushroom, slate or dusk. A neutral color on the walls will allow for pops of color in the bedding, curtains and accessories. Layer natural wood tones with greenery, and implement a faux fur pillow in chocolate bear-inspired shades. One idea is to paint the upper portion of the walls a slate gray and wallpaper the lower half of the walls with a bear print, separated with a chair rail.

Bedding

• Mix and match bedding to come up with a combination to complement the rustic decor. Texture is important as well as the graphics represented in the draperies. Use a duvet cover printed with bears, combined with an oatmeal-colored throw blanket. Add jolts of color with pillows. One idea is to have a series of bear images printed onto pillows. Use photography, line art or cartoon-style images with a red or bright blue fringe, and place the pillows throughout the room. For instance, place a few on the bed and a couple in a corner meant for reading.

Furniture

• The furniture will add the most rustic impact, if you choose the right pieces. An old bed refinished in a dark stain can act as a focal point. Other ideas include a headboard made with driftwood, a toy box painted with a bear graphic and bedside tables with a crackling finish painted pine green, sky blue or cherry red. Find a vintage children's rocking chair for the room, and place a stuffed bear or a bear pillow on the seat. Or have logs or branches turned into book shelves.

Accessories

• Teddy bears are the accessory of choice. Keep it rustic by choosing bears that resemble real bears. Hang a modern drum pendant light in a corner of the room. Customize the drum shade by stamping it with a bear-shaped rubber stamp in a variety of colors. Accessorize with ornamental bears such as book ends, mirrors and keepsake boxes. Have your favorite bear images, photography and art professionally framed in a rustic driftwood look and hang them throughout the space. One idea is to create a gallery wall of bear images. Use patterns like stripes, plaid and botanicals to incorporate natural elements.
