How to Decorate Floors With Decoupage

Wood or tile floors are attractive on their own, but adding embellishments through the technique of decoupage creates a visual effect that's bound to attract attention. You can decorate the floors with paper cutouts or colorful pieces of tissue paper. Stick to a border around the floor's edge for a less labor-intensive project than decorating the entire floor.

Instructions

    • 1

Clear the area of floor that you plan to decorate. Clean the floor thoroughly with wood or tile cleaner, depending on type. Allow time for it to dry thoroughly before decoupaging.

    • 2

Do a test layout of your decoupage design by placing the paper pieces onto the floor in the pattern you want. Make any adjustments and experiment until you find a look that you're satisfied with.

    • 3

Apply a layer of decoupage glue to the back of the paper with a foam brush and press into place on the floor. Continue this process until your design is in place. Let the glue dry overnight. Keep people from walking in the area while the glue is drying.

Seal in your decoupage design with a coat of clear exterior sealant. Brush or spray it directly over the paper design. Using exterior sealant gives you a level of durability that's much higher than another layer of decoupage glue. Let the sealant dry based on instructions and apply two to three additional coats.
