Place beanbag chairs on the floor -- one in each corner of the room -- to create that 70's flair. Floor pillows give guests an alternative sitting option. Purchase chairs made of plastic, leather, wood, vinyl or glass. In the center of the room, place either a shag carpet or a llama area rug. Or install wall-to-wall carpeting. The carpeting should be hot pink, neon green or bright yellow. If carpeting isn't for you, go with hardwood floors. Slide your furniture into the corners of your room to turn it into a disco dance floor.
When it comes time to paint the walls, use colors that were trendy in the '70s. Paint the walls turquoise, bright green, orange, brown or sunshine yellow. Or try mixing and matching these -- and other -- colors to create two-tone walls. Paint the walls pink and purple, yellow and orange, yellow and green or black and white. Or try using three colors, such as red, black and white. The walls will leap out even more if all white furniture is used in the room.
Hang posters of the era around your room. A "Saturday Night Fever" poster screams disco fever. Other film posters from the '70s include "Annie Hall," "The Godfather" and "Star Wars." Lava lamps were all the rage during the '70s and should be a part of the decor. Place lava lamps on small tables in the corner of the room to accent the light. If lava lamps are not your thing, try putting an all white globe lamp in the room or a chrome arc floor lamp. Add potted plants to the room or hang a few from the ceiling. Apply a wallpaper mural on one wall, depicting a scene from nature.
Any teen 70's bedroom would be incomplete without a disco ball hanging from the ceiling. Make sure to have other lights on in the room aimed directly at the disco ball. Track lighting would be ideal, allowing the ball to reflect a multi-colored lighting pattern around the bedroom. Pick up a record player at the flea market, along with some Bee Gees and Donna Summer LPs, put on your bell bottoms, a large collared shirt and let the good times roll.
