How to Connect Cafe Curtain Rings

Whether it's the classy fabric or its positioning over half the window, cafe curtains are on the cutting edge of interior design. Unlike conventional curtains that pass the rod through a cloth enclosure, cafe curtains utilize a grommet-and-ring technique that allows for easy installation and easier adjustment. While you can install your own grommets for the curtains before you install the rings, the simpler method is to use fabric that already has the grommets installed, such as a shower curtain.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the window's bottom half to determine the height of the cafe curtains. Add 1 inch to the height for the bottom hem.

    • 2

Cut your shower curtain the correct height, making sure to cut from the end opposite the grommets.

    • 3

Make a 1/4-inch fold at the the bottom of the curtain and press it with the iron.

    • 4

Fold it over again at 1/2 inch and press again with the iron.

    • 5

Position the curtain weights at both ends of the bottom of the curtain, inside the hem line, and pin the hem in place.

    • 6

Sew the hem as close to the fold edge as possible with a straight stitch.

    • 7

Pull the shower rings open and place the rings in the grommet holes. Secure the rings according to their manufacturer's instructions. String the curtain on your desired curtain rod and you're done.
