How to Hang Wall Effects

Wall effects are any type of decoration designed for a wall, and these decorations often require mounting to hang evenly and permanently. You'll need to use different hanging techniques, depending on the wall effect in question. Mounting wall effects properly is necessary to avoid any permanent wall damage and to ensure the wall effect does not fall and break.

Instructions

  1. Wall Pictures

    • 1

Place the wall stud finder on the wall in the area where you want to hang your picture or wall effect. Slide it left and right on the wall to find the studs. Mark the stud location on the wall using the pencil or chalk.

    • 2

Place the picture-hanging hook on the wall so the installation screws on the hook overlap the wall stud pencil mark. Use the level to ensure the two installation screws on the picture-hanging hook are even on the wall.

    • 3

Drill the installation screws into the wall with the power drill so they attach to the wall studs. Turn the picture or wall effect around to examine the back. Locate the installing ring or string already in place. Hang the string or ring on the picture-hanging hook.

    Paper Wall Murals

    • 4

Wipe the wall clean with a damp cloth where you want to hang the wall mural.

    • 5

Unpack the wall mural pieces and place them on the floor to get an idea of every piece and their placement in the overall design. Read through the manufacturer's manual, so you understand the order in which the pieces should mount.

    • 6

Place the level on the wall to create a chalk or plumb line horizontally on the wall using the chalk or pencil. This line helps you hang the wall mural horizontally so you get an even and proper attachment. Hanging the mural unevenly ruins the aesthetics and visual appearance.

    • 7

Take the bottom piece of the mural and apply adhesive spray to the back. Line it up against the plumb line, not the floor or doorframe since these are not reliable lines to work from. Continue hanging the remaining mural pieces until you are done.
