Decorating Ideas for House Barrooms

The barroom area of your home may be one of those areas that you just aren't sure how to decorate. A bar doesn't really match the decor in your home's other rooms, but it still needs a little pizazz to make it more interesting than an old-fashioned wood-paneled basement barroom. To jazz up the bar, give the room its own theme: a tiki bar, sports bar or British pub, a martini lounge or, for the nondrinker, a coffee bar.
  1. Tiki Bar

    • A tiki bar theme brings the fun of an outdoor paradise to your home barroom. Use grass bar skirts, fake palm trees, tiki mugs and masks, and even a few unlit bamboo torches to create the tiki theme in your barroom. An ocean scene wall mural further magnifies the effect. Tiki barware, utensils and party supplies are available at many craft and party stores.

    Sports Bar/Specialty Pub

    • If you're into sports or want the barroom to double as a man cave, a sports bar theme works well for the area. Add a few flat-screen TVs turned to sports stations and a few bar neons, especially those featuring local sports teams, as well as mugs, signs or other decor featuring the teams of your choice. Used sports equipment hung from walls completes the vibe. If you're not into sports, a British or Irish pub theme works well with dark-colored decor. Feature signs and posters from British or Irish beer brands. Hang wall decor that brings elements of Britain or Ireland to your room.

    Martini Lounge/Wine Bar

    • Martini lounges and wine bars are trendy in many metropolitan areas. You can re-create their vibe by painting the room in modern colors, adding modern-styled bar stools, comfy modern seating and swanky decor. If you like martinis, display martini glasses and shakers behind the bar. If into wine, display several of your favorite brands behind the bar.

    Coffee Bar

    • A coffee bar or cafe look is suitable for people who prefer coffee to alcoholic beverages. Display a collection of coffee mugs or vintage coffeepots behind the bar. Burlap coffee sacks make instant wall decor. Place an espresso machine or a cappucino maker on the counter for added effect. Add a few comfy chairs to the room, with cafe-style seating suited to reading or working on the computer. Coffee-themed posters or paintings round out the look.
